Sushi is one of my favorite foods—its delicate flavors, fresh fish, and artful presentation make it irresistible. Whether it’s nigiri, sashimi, or creative rolls, I can’t get enough. However, as much as I love it, I try to limit how often I indulge.
Sushi has many health benefits, especially when choosing simple options like sashimi or nigiri with lean fish like tuna or salmon. These options are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and other essential nutrients. The addition of fresh vegetables like avocado and cucumber makes sushi even more nutritious.

However, not all sushi is equally healthy. Rolls with tempura, cream cheese, or mayonnaise-based sauces can be high in calories and sodium. I also consider mercury levels in fish like tuna, which can accumulate with frequent consumption. Plus, sushi rice is often sweetened with sugar, which can spike blood sugar levels.
To maintain balance, I focus on simpler sushi options and limit indulgent rolls. I enjoy sushi on special occasions or when I’m craving it, but I’m mindful of the choices I make. By keeping it in moderation, I can continue enjoying sushi without overdoing it.
